There were many things in the articles we read this week that I hope to use in my own classroom. There were many wonderful tools listed that I have already started using. I know I always wanted to make my own movie as a student, so I can see this activity causing a high level of motivation in the students. This would have made many of my high school assignments much more enjoyable, and therefore beneficial. Students will not only be more likely to want to complete the work, they will also learn more from it because of the level of involvement they have with the topic.
Of the seven elements of digital storytelling that were listed there were only a couple with which I wasn't familiar. Economy and pacing were the two elements I could see that I would need to be especially aware of. I have a tendency to linger too long on one shot, and this can lead to a boring film that loses the interest of the viewer. The sections on economy were also especially valuable to me, as I tend to try and fit in too many details to be efficient. Being aware of this, and using my storyboard will help me keep these issues under control. I have always been a fan of film, so the other elements such as voice, soundtrack and dramatic question will be much more easy for me to use appropriately. I am sure then end product for our unit plan will be a success.

ReplyDeleteI also believe digital storytelling is a great way to get our students excited about whatever it is we may be teaching. Technology is something that students are interested in so it is our best interest keep up with the new and evolving ways to present our material to our students.

I would love to do digital storytelling just would have to simplify and take a different approach to it when I would use it in my special education classrooms. Economy pacing was one term that I too was unfamiliar with, thanks for not making me have to google the term!
