This book had a huge amount of helpful tools and tips in it. There are many resources listed here that I can see myself using throughout my teaching career. Many of the tools are ones I am familiar with such as Facebook and YouTube, but the book shows how to use these tools in the classroom in ways I have never imagined. I didn't know it was possible to take YouTube videos and embed them in other applications, and that alone is something I can see huge potential in. Being able to incorporate videos into lessons is a huge asset to visual learners like myself, and almost all students enjoy watching videos.
I was also very interested in the research this book presented on the benefits of gaming in the classroom. I have always loved video games, and I see their popularity growing with younger and younger students over time. I have seen firsthand the positive effect video games have in the classroom. I also found the information on education specific programs such as Edmodo and Room 21 to be very useful. I can imagine that using programs such as these in the classroom would make record keeping much more easy to handle. Also the ability of Google Drive to back up lesson plans and increase their portability is something I hadn't considered that also struck me as awesome. What ways would you use the functionality of a site like Edmodo to increase the productivity of your classroom? Here are my notes on this book.
You were right, this book was amazing! Even though I felt that I knew a lot about using social media and other websites as an educating tool the book gave even more detailed explanation and surveys that showed proven methods on how to implement them in our teaching. I'm glad we were given this book because I know that it is something that I will be using a lot in my teaching. Great post!!!
ReplyDeleteI found EmergingEdTech's 2013 Free Education Technology Resources eBook useful for find ways to use what you already know about say, Youtube, and combine it educational purposes. This will be a great way to connect what lesson you are teaching your students and showing them how it connects to their world.
